We started UK ECIG STORE in 2012 with a straightforward goal: help adult smokers in the UK find something better than cigarettes, and make sure the information and products available to them were actually worth trusting.

In February 2026, RetailX published its twelfth annual UK500 report, ranking the 500 most successful direct-to-consumer retailers, brands and marketplaces operating in the UK. We're proud to have been named in the Top 250.

We're not going to pretend that a listing in a retail industry report is the thing we're most proud of. What we're proud of is what it reflects: over a decade of getting the basics right for our customers, at a time when the UK vaping market has gone through more change than almost any other consumer category.

What Is the RetailX UK500?

The RetailX UK500 is the most comprehensive annual ranking of e-commerce and multichannel retailers, brands and marketplaces operating in the UK. Published every February by RetailX, now in its twelfth year, it is used by retailers, investors, and industry professionals as the definitive benchmark for UK direct-to-consumer performance.

Unlike rankings that simply measure revenue or web traffic, the UK500 evaluates businesses across four value chains: customer experience, product range, operations and fulfilment, and capital investment. It draws on more than 100 research metrics including financial performance, web traffic analysis, social media presence, customer reviews, and operational data from sources including SimilarWeb and Trustpilot.

The 2026 list was published in February 2026 and includes businesses across all sectors of UK retail, from grocery and fashion through to consumer electronics and specialist categories. The Top 250 cluster represents businesses ranked 101 to 250 in the full list of 500.

To put the context of the list into perspective, the Elite tier of the UK500 2026 includes Amazon, Argos, Boots, John Lewis and Partners, and Tesco. The Leading tier includes ASOS, Currys, IKEA, Marks and Spencer, and Superdrug. We sit in the Top 250, alongside brands including Clarks, Debenhams, DFS, and Lush.

What Does a Top 250 Placement Mean?

The UK500 Top 250 cluster is not awarded on the basis of a single metric. It reflects consistent performance across multiple dimensions of how a retail business operates. For UK ECIG STORE, we believe our placement reflects three things we've focused on since day one.

Focusing on online since the beginning

UK ECIG STORE launched as an online retailer in 2012 and has operated online since then. The UK500 research found that brands now outnumber retailers in the list, accounting for 53% of membership, and that direct-to-consumer businesses see a greater share of UK consumer web traffic than traditional retailers. We've been operating the D2C model since before it had a name.

Staying independent and UK-owned

We're one of a very small number of UK-owned, independently operated online vape retailers that has remained in continuous operation since the early years of the market. We haven't been acquired by a tobacco company. We haven't been absorbed into a larger retail group. We answer to our customers, not a corporate structure.

Adapting through every major industry change

The UK vaping market in 2026 looks nothing like it did in 2012. TPD regulations arrived in 2016. The disposable vape ban came into force in June 2025. The October 2026 Vaping Products Duty is approaching. Through every regulatory shift, we've updated our range, our advice, and our approach. Staying current is not optional in this industry. Since the disposable vape ban came into force in June 2025, the entire structure of the UK vape market has changed. We've made sure our range reflects that.
