E-Liquids - Facts and FAQs for Vape Liquid - UPDATED 2021

So what is e-liquid?

E-liquid, E Juice or vape juice is the liquid which is used in all electronic cigarettes or vapes and is made up of four main components which are Propylene Glycol (pg), Vegetable Glycerine (vg), Nicotine in some cases and flavourings. The pg and vg part are the carriers of the flavour and the nicotine, they both have different properties and in majority of vape juice they are combined and shows as a percentage for example 50%/50%, have a look at our pg/vg blog to learn more about pg/vg. The liquid in the vape tank or pod is heated which causes the liquid to vapourise, this is what you inhale when you vape. Below we have answered some of the main questions relating to vape juice.

Do I need to use different coils for different flavours in my tank?

No. The original flavour will stay until it has all been vaporised. Once this happens the new flavour will come through, but you don't necessarily need to change the coil very time you change flavours. However some flavours are stronger than others and may stay in the tank for longer such as menthol and tobacco.

Do I Need to different coils for different flavours in my tank

How do I fill my tank with e-liquid?

Some tanks are filled at the top and some are filled at the bottom, one thing to remember is not to pour the juice down the drip tip hole.

How do I fill my tank with e-liquid?

Can you recommend me a flavour to start with?

This is a matter of personal preference. Some starter vapers like to use Tobacco Flavours in the first few weeks before moving onto something Fruity or Dessert based. Our best selling flavours for starter vapers are tobacco royale and blue crush.

What's the difference between VG and PG E-Liquids, what does it mean?

It stands for Propylene Glycol (an artificial mixing agent) and VG stands for Vegetable Glycerin (a natural mixing agent.) These are mixed in different ratios to produce the base of every e-liquid, then flavouring and nicotine (if needed) are added. To put things basically, PG contributes to the throat hit you get and VG is used for dense vapour.

Whats the difference between PG and VG

What is a throat hit?

The throat hit is the sensation of the nicotine hitting the back of your throat, similar to the feeling of smoking cigarettes. The stronger the nicotine, the harsher the hit. Please ensure that you do not get nicotine that is too strong for you to use comfortably.

Are all e-liquids suitable for vegetarians?

There are a lot of liquids which are suitable for vegetarians and some ranges such as Vaping Outlaws which are Kosher and Halal friendly. If you are unsure if the liquid is suitable for vegetarians please contact our vape shop customer service team or check the description on the e-liquid page on our website.

What is the flavour ghosting?

Flavour ghosting is when you can still taste the flavour from a previous e-liquid in the tank. This tends to happen with menthol flavours as these are hard to remove and you may need to completely clean out your tank and change the coil to remove the flavour.

What is the difference between normal juice and premium juice?

"Normal juice" tends to have a higher PG ratio such as 70%PG / 30%VG, whereas the more "premium juices" tend to be high in VG and are a lot thicker due to the gloopy consistency of VG, whilst PG is more watery. MTL devices work better with higher PG juices and sub-ohm atomisers would need to be used with a higher VG e-liquids. you can read more about it by visiting our E-Liquids - The Bottled Secrets blog.

What is PG intolerance and what are the possible side effects?

PG intolerance effects some people and can lead to side effects from vaping liquids containing high PG levels. The effects can be a dry, irritated throat, mouth ulcers and dehydration. It is advised to drink plenty of water and cease the use of the e-liquid. If you do find that you are PG intolerant, we recommend using a Max VG or 100% VG e-liquid going forward.

What is Vaper's tongue?

Vaper's tongue occurs when the user does not change the e-liquid they use regularly and therefore start to lose the taste. It is advised to change the liquid for a week, then upon returning back to the original flavour you will be able to taste it again.

How to choose the right e-liquid nicotine strength

Is it bad to drink vape juice

It is not advisable to drink vape juice and this is something we would not recommend, however it is safe if small amounts of vape juice go in your mouth, however if larger amounts of vape juice containing high nicotine level are drank then we would advise to seek medical attention. This is because if ingested, a considerable amount of E-Liquid could be harmful since you will be getting a substantially higher concentration of the ingredients then when you are vaping. There is also a risk of nicotine overdose in doing so if the vape juice you are attempting to drink, has any nicotine content, therefore we will always recommend you not to ever do this.

Should I clean the tank when adding a new flavour?

It depends on which flavour was initially present. If by instance you were to refill your electronic cigarette with a blueberry menthol flavour where before you have been using a pure menthol flavour, there would be no issues, as the menthols would combine and ultimately your new flavour won’t be affected. Although, if you were to use a watermelon flavour where you first had a cinnamon or a custard based flavour, then we would recommend changing the coil before doing so, as the incompatibility of the flavours would highly affect the flavour of watermelon, which will be overtaken by cinnamon, or custard flavours. Simply bear in mind this, try to use similar flavours if you don’t need to replace your coil yet, and make sure to clean your vape tanks when changing flavour profiles.

What should I look for when buying a vape

When browsing the market for e cigs it is important to know what you need to look for and how to select your vape. This is key for both people who are looking to quit smoking and also those who are already experienced, as making a wrong purchase, could have an unexpected impact on your vaping experience. The factors to pay attention to are:

  • New to Vaping?:If you are new to vaping and looking to stop smoking through the use of vaping devices, then ideally you should be looking into MTL e cigarettes with the least amount of maintenance required, such as pod mods. The amount of cigarettes you have been smoking prior quitting could determine the amount of nicotine you need when vaping, as a higher amount of cigarettes could require a higher amount of nicotine. If you require help deciding on the matter, you can always visit our guides or alternatively contact us, so one of our experts can help you decide which nicotine strength is best suited for you. If you happen to be an experienced vaper instead, and are looking for a device that helps you reduce the amount of nicotine intake, then perhaps it could be helpful to look into e cigarettes compatible with DTL vaping.
  • MTL or DTL:Now it's time to make a choice. MTL devices are the best suited for people who recently stopped smoking or looking to stop, due to their ease of use and great ability to resemble the use of traditional cigarettes. Vape Pens and Vape Pods are both great choices, with the latter requiring even less maintenance during use, as some just require a swap of pods in order to continue vaping when the older pod requires replacement. DTL devices instead replicate mostly the use of a shisha, intensifying flavourings and nicotine absorption. DTL is usually suggested to more experienced users, as they require a larger amount of maintenance, and due to their enhancing capabilities, are used with low nicotine like 3mg up to 6mg.
  • Desired Type of E-Liquid:If you need a higher E-Liquid concentration then we suggest you look into MTL devices. Pod Systems are great with Nicotine Salts E-Liquids, and if you happen to be an ex heavy smoker they are really helpful in order to keep nic cravings in check. Otherwise, if you are looking to get a Sub Ohm device for DTL vaping, a high VG E-Liquid will be the best option for you.
  • Desired amount of maintenance:As a new vaper the less maintenance you are required to do, the better it is, as you probably will be already struggling with the smoking cessation process. Pre-filled pod kits, despite being locked with the brand flavour and not refillable, are a great option for those who are just getting started, since the only maintenance required is recharging the device, and replacing the pod once the old one is finished. For Sub-Ohm users, if you are looking for simplicity, you can always opt for a pod mod instead of Box Mod Kit; you may sacrifice a bit in battery capacity and output power, but you will still be able to go for DTL vaping in a smaller and simpler device to use.
  • Desired Power and Size:Now, there are MTL e cigarettes that are capable of variable wattage, but due to the high resistance, should be used at a low wattage. If you are looking for ease of use, then a normal pod system should do, but you also have the option to go for a pod mod, which is capable of both MTL and DTL vaping, giving you the option to try them both with a good battery capacity.

Whats a good tank that comes with pre-built coils

Whats a cheap online store for eliquids in the UK

UK ECIG STORE is one of the leading vape shops in the United Kingdom, and it provides the best ranges of devices in the market. Not only this, but there are many ways with which you can save money by shopping here, like cashback rewards, collection bundles and vape subscriptions to mention a few.

What’s your favorite eliquid favour fruity/menthol/bakery

With so many diverse flavours available on the market, what E-Liquids should you try first?

Fruity E-Liquids are quite abundant and popular among vapers, still some of them are getting the highlights. Blue Crush by UK ECIG STORE is one of the most popular fruity and menthol aromas out there, as it is simple yet perfected for those who just started vaping and left the harmful chemical found in traditional cigarettes. One of my favourite fruity flavours is Tropical Fruits by LDN LIQ; I personally enjoy this particular flavour because it blends invigorating tropical fruits and is pleasant to use as an every day vape.

Bakery flavours may not be for everybody, but nevertheless some of us are getting attracted by them from time to time. We must definitely mention the Essential Vape Co Cherry Bakewell, as despite not being around as other flavours, it has attracted many with its sweet cherry and creamy pastry fragrance. Individually i really like Lemon Pie by the same brand, as if i have to combine a nice cake and cream taste, there is nothing better than a refreshing citrusy undertone to go along with.

What is vape juice

Vape Juice, E-Liquid and E-Juice are all the juice or liquid that you put into your vaping device. They are all different flavours and have different ratios depending on the type.

What is in vape liquid

Vape Liquid contains Propylene Glycol and Vegetable Glycerine along with flavourings and depending on the e-liquid specific concentrations of nicotine.

How long does vape liquid last

How long your liquid lasts is completely dependant on the type of liquid, the device you're using and how much you vape. Using Shortfills with a higher powered device will usually not last as long as nicotine salts used with very low powered kits.

How to get the best flavour out of your e-liquid

So, not everybody wants to be a cloud chaser (blowing huge clouds). For some people, it’s all about the flavour.

If this sounds like you, we’ve got you covered. Just like cloud chasing, you can tailor your vape build to get the most flavour out of every last drop of e-juice.

There are 7 factors to think about:

Wattage and temperature control

Different elements of e-liquids come out at different settings. This is because specific flavourings vaporise at different temperatures. This works in combination with the ohm coil you have. Certain coils have a range of wattages printed on the coil itself to let you know what is best to fire the coil at. Think of it this way, food will always taste better when it is cooked to perfection. This applies to eliquid too and you will need to play about with your settings in order to find your “sweet spot”. We recommend that you start with a lower wattage and work your way up until it’s just right.

Airflow

In contrast to cloud chasing, reducing the airflow will help to produce a denser and more flavoursome vape. Just remember that you do need some airflow, otherwise, the vapour can be too hot or won’t get through your device. The same as with power settings, we recommend you start low, with a tighter airflow, and adjust your way up until you find the right balance. Also, think about where you are positioning your air holes. When the holes are directly underneath your coils you should find there is more flavour.

Coil

The coil plays a big part in how much flavour you are able to bring to the table. Old style atomiser/coils have the problem that they work against gravity. Not a good idea! This means they don’t wick as effectively and may produce dry hits. Since those days, bottom coil atomisers have been introduced. Following that, come sub-ohm devices. They support coils that are lower than 1.0 Ohms and significantly increase the amount of vapour and flavour produced. Finally, rebuildable atomizers offer the ultimate experience. It’s a bit more hands-on, but if you’re comfortable with making your own coils, then go for it! They offer a level of customisation over your vaping experience you can’t get with any other device.

Wicking material

The material that you use for your wick and coil can make a huge impact on how much flavour you can taste. Old style silica wicks muted the taste of e-liquids. Cotton is now considered to be the best. We recommend Japanese Organic Cotton, as it offers the best absorption.

PG/VG

Typically, PG is the flavour carrier for your eliquid. The higher the PG the more flavour. But this also carries a greater throat hit - like cigarettes. It’s all about finding the right balance between PG and VG. A 50/50 ratio is ideal. This still offers great flavour, with excellent vapour production and a manageable throat hit.

Drip Tips

There are a large variety of drip tips available on the market, from the wide bore to narrow, and long to short. In general drip tips improve flavour.

Cleanliness

Yes, it’s next to Godliness! The cleaner your tank, coil and wicking material, the better the vape. So don’t get sloppy guys. Replace it when it’s time. You’ll be grateful you did!
